Yvonne Dougty from the 1953 film The Wild One.

Yvonne is named after the Oklahoma native Yvonne Doughty. I do remember our first scramble. We hit a chop show near Okla in Spring of '86. The cops even had a chopper (in the air taking pictures). Boy, were we green. Well, we're still swingin'.

Yvonne [aka:Britches]

1953 R51/3 BMW

I purchased this bike when I was 15. Since I couldn't legally ride her around, my brother bought me 2 movies: The Wild One and Easy Riders. Yvonne played the character Britches in The Wild One. The Beemer and The Wild One were both made in 1953. Marlon played Johnny... Well, we're still swingin'.

Thumbs up for her running.
What can I say, she started on this day (Sept 3rd 2009).

Tuning the carbs on a r51/3 BMW.
Adjusting the carbs a little during her first heat up. Typical leaking Bings being fed by a Everbest (Everworst) petcock. The petcock actually seals after replacing the cork.

She just started.
This is like 10 seconds after she started for the first time since I was 18 years old. I bought this bike out of Ohio when I was 15 with money I made at the Harter House butcher shop on Cambell. Dad took me up there and we brought her home in our 1973 Ranchero 500. Wow it was great to hear it fire up again with a complete fresh build.

Phase 2's begun

It's 2009 and it's been a few years and I'm dusting off the plunger project. Litterally had to dust off the project from sitting in the barn. When I tore down the motor I found the reason I parked it over 20 years ago. The oil pump gear was shattered (it was loose, so it must have twisted, pinched, and pow). So I tore the engine down and the piston rings were fused and melted to the piston. Complete mess. I sent the case to CycleWorks in KC and had the slingers cleaned, new bearings and new crank arm's put in. I used late 1950's R50 rods which have 20mm wrist pins (instead of pre-1953 stock 18mm) which allowed the use of Kolbenschmidt R50S pistons. Short of it is I got the pieces back and rebuilt the engine at Church Street. Mudman painted the tanks in H-Town, check the hand painted pinstripes strait outta the 33rd. If you don't like stock, here's my other plunger FYYFF

Dusting off the rebuilt wheels of a 1953 R51/3 BMW

Wheels still look good under the dust. Probably shoulda spent the $200 on new stainless spokes, but I just stripped and painted each one.

Setting up the bike for assembly.

Too poor for a real bike stand, but at least I've got her off the ground and THE PLUNGERS are in! So dope.

Time to get the R51/3 BMW together.

Ok banging out some of the basic stuff. Putting a new wireing harness in the headlight was kind of a pain. Hope I didn't fry the 55 year old circuit board with the soldering iron.

Near the end of assembling the 1953 R51/3 BMW

If you know me, you know I get axious and I have few pics of the engine rebuild. Hope the old magneto and generator are still good. They caught a little watter while being stored at Church Street.

Put on the tins that TX Mudman painted down in Houston. Man he did an awesome job, I'll post more pics on that later. The pinstripes outta the 33rd ward of Houston are fantastic.

Phase 1 below

Frame
I painted the frame and rebuilt the forks last fall. My clear coat is not nearly as nice as Toads tank work. Perhaps I'll con him into shooting the tank and fenders.
Laced
Ain't much for stopping, but love that bicycle look. Rebuilt the wheels. Much better than the 50yr old rusty mess they were before. Bearings didn't feel too bad. AC Cycle (actually Mel's son) trued em after I painted & laced 'em.
ISR Floater
The Confederate sports more modern ISR fully floating rotors on polished Marchesini rims.

ISR Button Just replaced all the buttons on the ISR rotors. You can see they are doing their job by the polished/groved wear. Fewer rattles for summer 2005.

Nov19" 100/90 Wide White Walls (my pizza cutters)
MarchCarbs cleaned up nice. NOTE: Wife doesn't like the smell of carb cleaner. (NOTE TO SELF: you do like the smell of carb cleaner :)
