Speed limit is only 40 miles per hour then it drops to 35 mph, suddenly next to the school. The speed limit on this parkway is way too low, most people go 55 to 65+ here. No one slows down at this speed change, but beware of the cop who sits just east of this area!

They are really watching and enforcing the speed limits, I think because people are taking those new roundabouts really fast and they are getting ready to open that new stretch of 202, but I see them playing luke skywalker with the radar gun on a bike then other cars are stopping them as well. I saw 4 cops there the other day, so slow down. Also, I bet they start doing the same thing on brown soon too especially next month when school starts.

There are usually 3,but always 2 AZ.Highway Patrolmen, and a Pinal County Deputy working the area between Gold canyon and Florence Junction. This is straight road, usually moderate traffic. Why this warrants so many patrolmen, I dont understand? If they want to catch real speed nuts they should be working the 101, or US60, between Mesa Drive and Dobson, I see speeders driving at least 90 mph, tailgaters, crazies, etc. The only time you will see a patrolman in those areas is in response to an accident.

Police car will sit on the west side of Higley Road, in the 'intersection' where Ocotillo is under construction. Southbound view of the police car is obstructed by the bridge over the wash just north of there. Sometimes a couple police cars and a motorcycle will 'tag team' the area. Road is fairly isolated in that area. They recently widened it from 2 lanes to 6 lanes, and for some unknown reason dropped the speed limit from 55 mph to 45 mph thru this empty stretch.

Just as you get into Scottsdale right past the church on the right, heading eastbound on Shea Blvd, There is a photo radar van sitting parralell to Shea on a side street. The speed limit is 45 then it drops down to 40, they normally put the van right were it drops down. Some times after dark a police car sits in the church parking lot, clocking people's speed. I once saw a police car sitting past the van in the YMCA parking lot, and once the van was sitting right across from the YMCA getting west bound traffic. I set my cruise to 40 right when I hit 64th Street, and keep it that way till I hit Scottsdale Road.

Red light photo radar Plus speed trap photo radar on the same intersection at the same time, 24 hours a day. Very easy to speed over the 40 mph limit as one descends down eastbound Lincoln to cross Tatum. I tried to fight the ticket in PV court but the judge sided with the police even though there was no one near the intersection to be in danger (evidenced in the photo).
A motorcycle cop pulls over unsuspecting motorists who are driving the same speed as the surrounding traffic, but whom are going a few miles over the speed limit, which is unreasonably low. It's a 40 mph zone on a roadway with no houses on the street or schools, but don't mistake it for 45 and think you're okay. The motorcycle officer hides behind a wall just before the Bashas' shopping center heading west on Southern Road, just before McClintock Drive, usually seen Tuesday mornings but not always, during morning rush hour traffic. The motorcycle cop looks to be using a hand-held laser gun, which he uses while balancing on his motorcycle.

On the north side of E. Southern Ave. between McClintock Dr. and S. Rural Rd., there is a "big brother" white photo-radar van in a school zone. The school zone is a 35 MPH at-all-times zone. It is a very short school area. You see the speed limit sign, with no warning, and if you get by it, over 35 MPH, they have you. If you approach the spot from the east, you will not see the White van until it is too late. I saw it nab 3 unsuspecting citizens as I drove by on the other side.
Crossing the Colorado River from California into Parker Az it's posted 35 mph. There are several signs and a truck inspection station on the right side just past the bridge. Partially hidden in the signs is a 25 sign just before the station. The Parker PD grabs you at this spot and my wifes ticket for 10 over was over the $300.00 mark. About 1/4 mile past the 25 sign it returns to a 35 zone. It is interesting to note that if you are traveling on the other side of the road towards California the speed limit remains 35 mph.

Officers sit on motorcycles in the shade, just barely visible when you get within 100 feet of them. Vehicles going Northbound are primary targets heading towards the Peoria Sports Complex/Arrowhead Towne Center Mall. This is a huge cash cow for Peoria which is turning into a speed trap town. Posted speed limit is 35 but most people drive 45-50 along this stretch since it is two lanes in each direction. On Friday nights look for the same motorcycles further North closer to the sports bars.

Crackdown on speeding I guess so don't even be Tempted to speed thru Yuma anymore. I live in the foothills 8 miles from town and I drive I-8 daily.
Prescott Valley has added the video cameras on many of their signal lights. You may receive a ticket in the mail for going through a yellow light that turns red before you pass through. The ticket is terribly expensive and even the staff at the police department are terrified of the camers. Also, even if you are going with the flow of traffic, you get a ticket in the mail unaware that you were even speeding because you were driving in the midst of all the traffic. You have no defense they just don't care what you have to say. Pay the fine or go to school those are your options.

The speed limit through Chino Valley on Highway 89 is 45 mph which is reasonable. Entering and leaving town however, there is a long stretch of rural highway posted at 55 mph before it turns to 65 mph.

Cottonwood Police Unit sits on one of the residential side street intersections with the radar aimed down Black Hills Drive, ostensibly to keep students from Yavapai Community college from speeding. They will stop anyone travelling over 30mph. Speed trap is limited to school hours, 7:30a-9:30p. This is the only area in Cottonwood city limits with targeted enforcement.

Speed limit drops quickly to 45 due to highway business crossing, and it is reasonable for the situation. Many people roar through at 65 - 70 and get lucky. Not a deliberate speed trap per se, but easy to miss if one is distracted, e.g. talking or daydreaming. Both AZ highway patrol and Yavapai Sheriff patrol enforce vigorously when present.

Near the bottom of a steep hill on Interstate 40 they wait to catch somebody. It's easy for your car to travel faster coming down this hill. I got the ticket driving from NC to CA without even trying to drive any faster than interstate speeds.

Sheriff and Police are always trying to catch people on Lake Drive. The speed limit is 25 and you better be going 25 because they are lurking all around that area. Also, make complete stops because they are watching for the rolling stop also.
