Dudley, though a major cross street between 32nd Ave and 38th Ave, has a residential speed of 25 mph. I was caught with radar going 35 mph. The police officer said that this trap was prompted by local citizen complaints. He did apologize as he handed me my ticket!

Commerce City, CO - Commerce City police monitor this intersection all the time. Currently they have been enforcing the right turn only sign at Dexter to turn Right onto 60th Avenue. Problem, the signage is in violation of Federal Statutes. The DOT has promised to fix. But, the CC police still write tickets even though they know the tickets are unlawful because of the signage issues. The signage can not be confusing and the Traffic Court Judge is on record stating that the intersection is confusing and lacks the usual markings and signage, except for one sign directing drivers into the Wendy's parking lot.

Lone Tree, CO - Eastbound C470 between Quebec and Yosemite after rush hour (usually after 9am). Lone Tree stages four or five officers (some on motorcycle along this corridor) both east and west bound C470. Officers use LTI Laser equipment. They scan from vehicle to vehicle and apparently produce what's know as "slip effect". It's a ticket assembly line. According to my speedo, I was driving at 72mph in a 65 with the flow of traffic (GPS verified speedo to be faster than my actual speed)... Officer said he got me on laser doing 77mph - thus bumping me into the 4 point ticket category (Officer told me that my GPS unit was Not a callibrated device (my GPS's documented accuracy is +/- .2 knots which is much better than LTI laser equipment's +/-1mph). The 77mph was impossible! Reference the following article about LTI equipment written by the BBC in the UK (http://www.bbc.co.uk/london/content/articles/2005/09/07/insideout_speedgun_feature.shtml?comment=response). Basically, officers can fool laser guns to say whatever they want them to say - especially scanning higher profile, light colored vehicles. I have solid theoretical formulas (basic highschool algebra and trigonometry based) in spreadsheets to prove this although without and expensive lawyer, I doubt any judge would admit it as evidence due to "over-complexity". I just paid the fine. The Lone Tree police department has about 22 officers for about 5900 residence which is about 3.73 officers per 1000 people. The national average for the US is about 2 officers for every 1000. Revenue generation is therefore at the forefront of their activities.

Littleton, CO - There are two roads within 1 mile of each other on the east side of 85/Santa Fe between Highlands Ranch Parkway and Titan Parkway. One is a well-spotted and lit road into a small residential area-I've seen polic SUVs, motorcycles, and cars there many times. The other is the real winner- there is a small, unlit dirt road (nearest of the two to Highlands Ranch), aligned with hills on both sides of the entrance, making it impossible to see a car parked on that road until you're within 100+/- feet of it. They sit there most often and catch both south and north bound vehicles several times a month. This one is sneaky!

Northglenn, CO - •On Community Center Drive, Northglenn police often operate a speed trap near Boondocks Fun Center. They either park in the driveway of "Boondocks" or in a vacant lot just to the north. Be especially cautious if you are southbound on Community Center Drive, and make sure you are not doing more than the speed limit of 25 mph as you come over the hill just south of Northglenn City Hall (in front of Stone Mountain Apartments). A friend of ours, who had a clean driving record for a long time, recently received a ticket for 6 mph over in this area, and the fine was $175. The officer told her that the fine is a lot higher for people who don't have a clean driving record. If you are northbound on Community Center Drive and have just come across the bridge over I-25 (where the speed limit is 35), and the light at Malley Drive is green, make sure you slow to 25 by the time you pass this intersection. AM rush hour is the prime time for this speed trap, but it is common at any time during daylight hours, much less so at night.

Northglenn, CO - Northglenn police sometimes operate a speed trap on eastbound Malley Drive at Highline Drive. The speed limit is 30 mph, but you are going downhill and it is easy to do 35-40 if you are not paying attention. Police car is well concealed on Highline Drive, and sometimes an officer will stand out by the street holding the radar. Also, there is a popular bike trail here, and the crosswalk law (yield to pedestrians) is very strictly enforced. Make sure you stop if there is a pedestrian or bicyclist even approaching the street.

They generally radar (by airplane) around 63rd St or around Hwy 52 and then pull you over around Niwot Rd. Here's the trick, the thick white lines on the side of the highway that run perpendicular to the white line that marks the lane is what they use to radar you. They base your speed on how fast you drive past these lines. Be ware! They're very tricky! Hope this helps!

I was ticketed for 54 in a 35 when the officer said he clocked me about 200 ft before I got to the 55 mph sign.
Windsor, CO - Windsor is known for its officers spending an inordinate amount of time on traffic speed enforcement. This is one of their favorite spots. As you travel South from Main street on 7th watch for them hiding on the east side of the street under some trees just before the stop sign at Eastman Park Drive. the road is wide with no parking and only a couple of cross streets. It is easy to get going 35-40 down the small hill. I have seen tickets posted in the police blotter in the local newspaper at this location for as little as 5-7 Mph over the limit. ie... John Doe was ticketed for speeding 36 in a 30 at 7th and Eastman Park. There are no houses facing 7th in this area and very little pedestrian traffic and no vehicles parked along the road to cause congestion or line of sight problems. This is simply a revenue generator for the town. I have lived here for over 20 years and have seen this area consistently patrolled especially at night in the summer when the weeds on the east side of the road are tall providing them a better hiding place.

They also patrol this stretch of Powers with radar constant on, clocking people while they move. I have seen them cross the center median to go after someone they clocked while driving.
Colorado Springs, CO - Cops routinely sit on the corners and cul-de-sacs along S. Carefree Circle east and west of Oro Blanco, usually radaring westbound (downhill) traffic. The street is posted at 30 mph, which requires braking downhill to drive the limit as you approach Murray Blvd. Cops sometimes sit on the eastbound side of South Carefree a few blocks east of Oro Blanco, radaring eastbound traffic. They often have someone pulled over, so they know this is a very profitable site; it is probably the most lucrative speed trap site in the city!
