Green Cove Springs, FL - Ying Ling's Chinese restaurant off of Hwy 17 (S. Orange Ave.) & Oak Street just as leaving Green Cove Springs, before the Hwy 16 intersection. Marked City Police car with no light bars. Zone on this "highway" is a 35 mph, just where the limit changes to the highway speed limit. Police sits right where the zone changes, nailing drivers leaving GCS. Also runs the radar while drivers are pulled over, clocking drivers from behind as they pass by.

Middleburg, FL - City of Middleburg on Route 21 or Blanding. Speed drops from 45 to 35 at both ends of town. Police wait about two blocks from sign with radar. Sometimes they hide behind bushes. A team will be there and pull over almost every car. They like to work during rush hour and on Sunday morning. Will write for 5 and over. You had better be going 35 when you pass the sign or you will get a ticket.

Lawtey, FL - Of the past 10 trips through Lawtey, I have seen the law 8 times in the same spot. He likes to park under a small shade tree just north of the single traffic light in the town. The officer will stand just inside his car door and aim straight up 301. The lane curves giving the officer the line of sight up to a mile to the north. He can get your speed up to where the initial speed reduces.

Starke, FL - Enforcement is moderate on 16W until Starke city limits where laser is used. Speed limit is 60 mph west of Camp Blanding till just outside Starke, then speed limit changes suddenly to 50 and again very quickly to 40 on a curve. Sitting on the curve next to a church westbound toward Starke is where the city police sit. The signs are very close together. The only rational thinking is this is a speed trap. 50 mph to 40 mph is where the trap is. At 55 mph with cruise control on, the change is so sudden, you don't have time to even release the control before you've gone by the 40 mph sign and they gotcha with laser. For big truck info: there is also a sign stating no engine brakes within city limits. So when driving a big truck in that vicinity slowing your speed from 55 mph to 40 mph, with a load is almost impossible without the jake brake and they will cite you for using it...if this isn't a speed trap what is it??? It's not fair to anybody driving on that road big truck or car, but it's a way for the city to make money.

Starke, FL - This is a horrible speed trap. They take you from 60mph down to 35 or 40mph and if you're not really paying attention to your speed, they will pull you over. There's no legitimate reason for this much slowdown other than a revenue generating speed trap. Be really careful if you have out of state plates. They much prefer to pull over non Floridians.

Jacksonville, FL - An "Enhanced Penalty Speed Zone" was recently established by the Florida Legislature at three locations in the State, including a short stretch of I-95 south of Jacksonville, as an experiment to see if higher fines would reduce speeding and accidents. The legislation provided that drivers could be ticketed for speeds as low as 1 mph over the 65 mph posted limit in this zone, and that higher fines would be assessed. Elsewhere in Florida, State statutes specifically provide for ticketing only for speeds in excess of 5 mph over posted. The only additional signage placed for this zone simply states "Speeding Fines Higher". This is most definitely a trap that would blind-side unwary motorists who have come to expect that almost everywhere there is at least a 5 mph buffer over posted speeds before ticketing. AAA should step in with warning billboards here instead of focusing on the bogus issue of ticketing in Lawtey, FL.

Oviedo, FL - This trap involves Alafaya Woods Boulevard between Alafaya Trail and Alexandria. This is a 4 lane non divided roadway. The traffic flow here is loght to moderate and there have been no considerable accidents. Some idiot with the City of Oviedo decided to lower the speed limit from 30 miles per hour to 25 miles per hour. How stupid! The two lane side streets through residential areas with children present, etc is also 25 miles per hour. This stretch of roadway drops from 30 mph to 25 and you guessed it .... there sits Oviedo's lowest -- running radar. I very strongly suggest: Instead of Alafaya Woods Blvd. drive Alexandria and then turn onto the Blvd. This helps you miss almost all of this unneeded low limit. Also, take Mitchell Hammock to the Blvd. and turn there, again you avoid this trap. The really stupid aspect to this: there are other similar areas with more traffic-- but higher speed limits. Remember in FL -- they can stop you for 1 mile over the limit -- but they can not write you for 5 miles or less over the speed limit. They can write secondary violations however.

The speed limit is 30 which is unrealistic. There are subdivisions entering and exiting Cogan but houses are set way back from the road in gated communities. Taking into consideration that the speed limit on Jupiter is 40 and that private driveways are right on the side of the road, 30 MPH in the Bayside area is way out of line.
Tampa, FL - Sunday morning (10:30) on the east end of Courtney Campbell Causeway, with Tampa Police having up to six stops going at the same time with both motorcycle(5) and patrol car(1). It was even observed that as many as three individual stops were working at the same time in the double turn lanes across from Shriners, impeding traffic. The traffic was heavy, allowing no room for passing. How speed was being measured on individual vehicles is indeterminable, just a 'take my word' attitude. It appears that the 'cut them from the herd' method was being used. Only left lane autos were being pulled over, with a continuious 'assembly line' approach to the pullovers. If radar was being used, then speeds were being measured after the crest of the bridge, where the speed limit is still 60 mph. The first 50 mph sign is partially obscured by a bush, with the 'reduce speed ahead' sign between the two 50 mph. Note: this was in the wake of local channel Bay News 9 filling a TV report on Officers being observed and filmed for hours at a time setting in church parking lots 'shooting the breeze'.

Ocala, FL - For about 9 miles Highway 200 west of I-75 is a recently widened and reconstructed road. The highway is a safe, pothole free semi-rural divided 6-lane road, with left turn lanes and a wide grass median. Right now it has about nine traffic lights along this section. However, the posted speed limit was only raised from 45 to 50 MPH after construction was completed from two lanes to six, while other 2-lane and 4-lane roads in the same county with more traffic and way more uncontrolled access, are posted at 55 and even 60 MPH. The Florida Highway Patrol and the Sheriffs Office routinely sets up enforcement along this section of the 200 corridor. At night, just East of SW 80th to about SW 46, FHP and SO units are frequently blacked out in the median shooting radar or laser in both directions. They sometimes conceal themselves in the parking lot of Triple Crown Homes Model Center (North side of hwy) or behind the wall of a subdivision entrance on the south side of road.

Brooksville, FL - Between Wiscon Rd and Cortez Blvd on Broad Street/Hwy 41 across from Walmart, there is a 57 Chevy which is used as an advertisement. If you are traveling INTO Brooksville on Broad Street, the officers will sit in their car under the sign which is before the 57 Chevy in a parking lot. The speed on Broad street goes down from 55 to 45 right in front of the Ford dealership right before Wiscon Rd. Most people do not see the sign and continue on at 55. Officer will use either Radar OR LASER to estimate your speed and pull you over when you get to Cortez. The officer may pull you over and tell you he got you doing 55, then write the ticket for 55 but then put on the ticket (actual speed 59) or something around there as he did on mine. I was fortunate and got out of it because I had witnesses in the car and there was a large truck with trailer beside me between the officer and my vehicle.

There is a helicopter overhead and a whole pack of FHP's in the cemetery just ahead. The helicopter radioes to the cars, and they stop several at a time. These rallies are performed regularly, and there are no breaks for 2-4 miles over the 55MPH limit.

Winter Garden, FL - With the construction of the grooves they have changed the speed limit three times. It was 45, then overnight it went to 40, and now they have dropped a four lane road to 35mph for the entire length of it. The adjoining 535 has been dropped to 35 as well to force people down the new four lane road where they sit at two locations. One under the 429 overpass and closer to the 50 sitting inside the entrance to a subdivision peering around the corner to tag you. Not a single house fronts the road, all rural or subdivisions with six foot high block walls line the road, 35 is simply for money
