Norcross, GA - Officers will set up in the parking lot of the Methodist Church on the northbound side and in the driveway of a dentist's office on the southbound side. It's a blind curve in both directions. Just past the church and continuing to Buford Hwy the speed limit drops to 35 from 45. Radar is more often run on the south side as folks coming from Buford tend not to notice the signs and traffic is always tight. Be careful. Frequent DUI checks in the same location.

Alpharetta, GA - Rucker Rd, between Highway 9 and Wills Rd- fronts on Wills Park. This is a 4 lane road and major cross thoroughfare with a posted 35 mph speed limit. Several times a month, they set up a "pullover party" with two or more cars hiding behind a tree on top of a short hill. Since many of the cars are out of county, easy pickings. They are also starting to enforce the stop for pedestrians at the crosswalk near the park. Recently they did a test "sting" that made the news, putting "fake" pedestrians at the crossings and issuing warnings-tickets will follow.

Suwanee, GA - As you cross Suwanee Creek, there are two small side roads with older '50's housing. They will be in one of the two side roads to the right before Buford Hwy (Hwy 23). Remember Suwanee City Hall is right off the intersection of Hwy 23 and Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road. This is an easy site for them to go to and they are there often - especially in the mornings. If it is a sunny day and in the AM, they will be there or on the other side of the road near Smithtown Road. The fines in Suwanee are the highest by a large margin in Gwinnett County. For a divided highway, 45mph is totally unrealistic, especially since both speed traps are right after a large hill.

Both State and County officers patrol this 45 mph zone heavily. Motorist can be caught off guard traveling east or west while in this 45 mph zone. I have seen hundreds pulled over in this zone. Speed limit should be higher. This is not a highly congested area, just another SPEED TRAP!

Woodstock, GA - The entire city of Woodstock is a notorious speed trap. Stick a turkey on the roof of your car before entering town and by the time you get to the other side of town that bird will have been thoroughly microwaved. Speed limits are set absurdly low in hopes of encouraging speeding. The city is so well-known that the state to date will not allow them to run radar on I-575 which cuts right through the city. No other municipality in the county has been denied this "opportunity". City leaders are unapologetic (are speed trap town leaders ever apologetic?). My advice: stay out of Woodstock as much as possible and spend your sales tax dollars elsewhere.

Oakwood, GA - The local Oakwood cops place themselves in a private parking lot on the main hwy. at anytime the medical office is not open - day or night, obviously considering themselves above the laws regarding private property. This is on a short stretch of hwy. where 55 is the limit. They also prey on unfortunate victims anywhere along any street in this city, either hidden away, or they use constant radar surveillance on any approaching vehicles as they patrol about. They do not give allowance for a single mph off of the speed they record; i.e.: no mercy given. If you should disagree with the charges, you'd better be prepared to return for more than one night to court; it's apparent that if you can afford to bring a lawyer with you, that you will get off OK. But: If you try to represent yourself, you will be Guilty As Charged, no matter what argument you may present to the contrary. All areas in these environs should be considered "high enforcement", although the speed limits are not completely unrealistic.

There is a long gradual dip in the terrain and they sit off to the right side at the top on the other end of this dip where they are concealed by trees. By the time you see them its too late. They could also be a little further along the road off to the right around a bend as drivers have become wary of the main location above. I travel this area twice daily and see someone pulled over by GSP just about every day. I was one of the unlucky souls about a year ago. The posted speed limit is 55mph, so set your cruise if you can as its easy to pick up speed going down the hill just before this spot. They don't warn. They Ticket!

Abbeville, GA - The state patrolmen and Putnam policemen are sitting here so frequently I feel like bringing them a cup of hot coffee some mornings when I'm driving by on my way to work...maybe a donut too. Highway 441 bypass is a major thoroughfare before and after UGA home games, and the squad cars are always out in force. Slow down around Eatonton...Heed this advice!

Macon, GA - I-75 passes through Macon, and the speed limit drops from 70 MPH to 55 MPH. Despite the change in signs, the flow of traffic continues to be considerably above the speed limit. Macon police randomly stop cars that are exceeding the speed limit. The officer admitted that he can't stop everyone and just picks one car out of the group. The Saturday morning I was stopped there were two cruisers taking turns stopping cars.

Be especially careful where I-75 and 475 split, at the north and south ends of Macon.

As you crest the rise a sign says Speed enforced by detection devises. In 100 feet another sign posts 45 miles per hour down from 55. Typically a warning sign is posted advising speed zone ahead. This is not the case here and drivers do not have sufficient time to adjust their speed after seeing the 45 MPH sign so local Omega, GA police officers harvest revenue from out-of-towners. The officer will sometimes cite the alleged offender with "too fast for conditions" instead of "speeding" so the munincipality doesn't get in trouble for being a speed trap.
