Elk Grove Village, IL - Cook County Forest Preserve Sheriff's Police is hiding in various accessible off-road spots on this stretch of Higgins Road in Busse Woods (in Cook County Forest Preserve. Speed limit is 45 MPH, mostly because the road can be slippery when wet, the area a wetland so it is fog-prone because of a few scattered lakes and a crossing creek, and wild life is often crossing (watch for elks and deer). Traffic is usually moving with 55 - 65 MPH and this speed is tolerated by the cops on dry days with good visibility. But beware of being the leader of the pack at 65 - 70 MPH, after you pass Higgins-Arlington Heights Road crossing (going west), or moving east, after you pass Higgins IL Rt. 53 crossing.

Elburn, IL - Do yourself a favor and avoid the town of Elburn. The Elburn police are the most unprofessional, unhappy and bored cops I have ever seen. Just to highlight a few points. Speed fluctuations coming off highway are on purpose! It reduces from 55mph to 35mph very rapidly. They play games to get unsuspecting people. I have reported their practices to the State of Illinois. Hopefully somebody can clean this up because people are tired of the harassment. They also ticket daily at the Metra prking lot because they have a very TRICKY system to pay daily fee. Trust me, unsuspecting people miss everyday and must pay $80 dollar fines for the missed $1.25 parking fee. All they need is a LARGE sign when you enter lot, or even a gate. They will not do this because they love collecting money from otherwise honest people. It is a scam! Elburn is not a town I will spend another penny in. Local officials have ruined the town.

With the 30 MPH speedlimit posted, it's fairly easy to accidently let your speed climb to 40 when going down the hill. The radar will be on the Southside of the street just to the East of the underpass on an access roadway. You won't see him until it's too late.

I would guess they cruise up and down the length of Galligan between Huntley Rd and 72, but the action really seems to heat up on Galligan between Binnie and Freeman, and often it's right at the intersection of Galligan and Freeman. People frequently speed on the country roads out here, but Galligan is the only road where I've seen so many people pulled over. It is very easy to be speeding right past them with the significant drop in the speed limit, so I have gotten in the habit of braking to assure that I am going slow enough...this sometimes frustrates other drivers behind me, but I can't tell you how many times I've braked to adhere to the speed limit change, someone behind me is mad, and there's a cop waiting...I've saved myself and lots of people driving behind me tickets.

Chicago, IL - I've seen this on average 1-2 times a week, mainly weekends and holidays. The end of the month is extremely treacherous. This is a crazy intersection, and this goes both ways. They will pull you over if you speed (don't remember the speed limit now, since I don't take this road to work anymore, I think it's 30), and they will ticket you. I have seen upwards of 10 people getting pulled over at once. There's usually two alpha cops, radar in hand (one for each direction). Cops are lined up all along the apartment buildings on the northeast side of the intersection, ready to respond to a call. Watch out after the intersection, I garuntee you there will be more. Usually you won't have too many problems during the day because at the intersections of Fullerton and Elston and Damen, traffic there is horrible so going over the limit is a rare occurence and opportunity, but at night, typically, when traffic dies down it is easy to go through this intersection. Especially going west on Fullerton going over the bridge past the shopping centers you will have to anticipate whether you will have to speed up a little to make the green or slow down to ensure you won't have to slam on the brakes and risk and accident to save yourself from a ticket.

Joliet, IL - •This intersection gets patrolled by both local, and county police officers because it is an area which is not incorporated in the city of Joliet. It gets watched very heavily for both speed as well as failure to fully stop (it is only a 4-way stop) It is in the middle of a rapidly growing residential area. Late at night seems to be the officers' favorite time to sit to the south of the intersection and watch. I travel through it every day at 10:40 pm enroute to work, and have gotten more tickets there than I would care to count. They seem to like to ticket people for rolling stops as much or more than speeding. Often time their lights are off sitting away from the intersection enough that you can't see them until you're in the intersection. I have actually been ticketed two days in a row there, the second time because I stopped past the line. It is a brutal intersection! The residents nearby have nothing but time to watch and complain about traffic to the local authorities.

If you go through late night, they are almost always there looking for folks to roll through the stop sign at the end of the interstate ramp. They will routinely follow you and tailgate you very closely. As you look in your rear view mirror and swerve a little because of the distracting police car right behind you, they will then pull you over and say you swerved...that is all they need to check you for seat belts or DUI! The area residents are fed up with their over zealous behavior.

Mokena, IL - With the high density of bars along these roads. 10pm it starts, but gets really bad around 1-2am closing time. Even if your not speeding chances of randomly getting pulled over with no cause is EXTREMELY high. Being tailgated by an officer while no traffic is on the road is VERY common practice. Being pulled over for nothing is done. Cops do this to talk to you in order to smell your breath. Common practice for getting pulled over with no cause is to receive a made up speeding ticket, if your car is legal. If your vehicle is not legal they will issue a ticket for non-common things i.e. plastic license plate cover, bulb out etc things not normally ticketed. These tickets are only given out if you don't smell like alcohol. This is where you should know about breath testers. If you have truely had 1 or 2 drinks, its been under 45min since your last gulp. DO NOT BLOW you are putting yourself at risk. Request blood drawn. Facts about breath testers 1. Accuracy with in 5min of last gulp .1(+/-.3) [This is for those who meet a friend for one drink then leave. You will blow very very high and be found guilty of DUI] This number is not capable of reached while alive. Usually cops will bring you in for blood test. But this number even though wrong will make you look very bad in court. They have proven that you have drank and were picked out. They just can't prove how much with out blood test. 2. Accuracy around 20min of last gulp usually around .03 [+/-.03]but can be higher or lower depending on the individual and what they drank, hard liq or beer. [This is due to residual alcohol in your mouth and throat. Blow in breath tester can't overcome this. Is also why blowing with in 10min is really bad.] 3. Accuracy with around 40min of last gulp usually .002(+/-.002)4. Accuracy with in 1 hour for blow through breath tester is about .001 but usually around .0005 What you should also know about and is the law. You do not have to walk the line, follow the pen, rub your belly pat your head, say your abc's etc. This is purely for the amusement of the cop. I had this happen to me in MOKENA. I blew 0.00 but cop was determined to give me a ticket. I could not pass the pen test. So he accused me of being on drugs. I had a drug test and that came back clean to. I went to an eye doctor he did the pen test and had same results. He said it was very common to not be able to pass those. It has something to do with the muscles in the eye don't recall what the fancy long word was for it. So he wrote his note and told me that cops can't diagnose you as drunk or anything with out special equipment. As common non-normal, non-problematic to health reactions look like many things cops look for. But they are not medical doctors and can't diagnose you. The end result was he issued a ticket for driving under the influence but it got dropped in court after I brought in the results. AND AFTER MUCH OF MY TIME BEING WASTED.

Carbondale, IL - The police usually sit on the south side of US 13, in local business parking lots. The drop in speed limit from 45 mph near University Mall to 30 mph after North Lewis Lane usually catches motorists off guard. Especially at night, with the three lanes open, it is hard to keep speed at 30 mph.
