Metairie, LA - Anywhere in Metairie where the speed limit is 20, do the speed limit. I know that it's hard to go that slow, but the JP's have been watching that lately, so watch out!

Metairie, LA - A busy street that many people take to get to bypass backed up I 10 traffic. Cops hide behind trees on Toulouse and then pull you over on the side street. I've seen car after car being pulled over. This is probably one of JPSO's prime spots for their deputies to make quota.

Metairie, LA - Avron Blvd. is an alternate route to go from Lake Villa Dr. to Bissonet Dr. mainly used when traffic on W. Esplanade Ave. is backed up or congested. From Lake Villa to Transcontinental the speed limit is 30 MPH which is obeyable, but once you cross Transcontinental it drops to 20 MPH and there is always a motorcycle cop behind some bushes in someone's yard. It's very easy to continue driving at 30 MPH in that 20 MPH zone and the cops that have got me have wrote me tickets for as little as 4 over. It's a shame that such popular and convenient road would have a ten mile an hour drop.

Boutte, LA - This is a four lane highway. Speed limits vary widely in an area (eastbound) between Raceland, Des Allemands, Paradis, Boutte, on through to Avondale. Next stop, Westwego (see listing). I think the lowest speed, with heaviest enforcement, is in Boutte. Max speed is 35 MPH, but with 4 lanes and with center turn lane, very easy to exceed.

Kenner, LA - The section of 3rd Street from Williams Blvd. to Alliance is a speed trap. The speed limit used to be 30MPS which was slower than the areas past Williams and past Alliance. Even at this time, enforcement was very strict. Now, they have lowered the speed limit in this area to 20MPH. I don't even pass here anymore. I'm in my 60's and had never had a speeding ticket before, but was pulled over for speeding and at that time, the speed limit sign was hidden by a tree branch.
New Orleans, LA - The cops are on foot, they are not even in vehicles. I was driving down Canal Street headed twords Canal Blvd. and a police man jumped infront of my car! He was furious w/ me that I almost hit him so he approached my SUV cursing and hollaring at me. The speed limit is 35?! Which I have never saw a sign that states that and if you drive with the flow of traffic you will do 45 which is the reasonable speed limit. The cops are more likely to give speeding ticket/seatbelt tickets than arrest juviniles for selling drugs. While I signed my violation I noticed and pointed out that a juvi was selling drugs right infront of us, he said, " I dont see what you are talking about, I am here to give out speeding violations not arrest drug dealers". So be very cautious! They will get you, even for 2 or 3 miles over the limit!

New Orleans, LA - Until Monday 09/17/07 I-10 and US 90 going from Metairie through New Orleans was patrolled only by NOPD. As of Monday the Louisiana State Police was added to this assignment due NOPD's lack of manpower. They will be strictly enforcing the speed limits out there, And as many of us live here know. Since the storm people are going easily 80+ mph in New Orleans East. State Troopers are taking this assignment seriously, So be ready ! They have alot more equipment then NOPD....They have planes for speed enforcement.

Thibodaux, LA - Troopers and local units love to sit on the side of St. Mary Street and just prey! My K40 has picked up a trooper sitting with his "lights totally off!" at night in the parking lot of that haircut place across from China Gardens. My K40 def saved me on that one! Another favorite is troopers like to back up where that Jesus sign is by that little church off St.Mary. They have a bush close to the street and they back up behind it. On Camelia Dr., which is the street to the right of the Rouses Corp Office off St. Mary, locals like to sit right behind the building and radar. Also I was going up that same street & there was a policeman, ON A BICYLE!, radaring! Like the ones you see on a college campus! I of course did NOT see him at all! Once again, my K40 saved me! The speed limit down that street is 20mph, which is pretty hard to do! Don't forget there is PHOTO RADAR / RED LIGHT CAMERA at the intersection of Rob's Donuts! If the light is yellow, don't chance it! HUGE RECOMMENDATION: BUY A K40 RADAR/LASER DETECTER!

Mandeville, LA - Causeway police are very strict. If you are on the Causeway, you had better be doing the speed limit. It's best not to speed before the 2nd crossover(South bound). The "1/2 mile crossover" signs are a good indicator to slow down. Also, if you are towing an open trailer, or otherwise, you are bound to get pulled over for any sort of debris flying out. The Causeway police are constantly pulling over trailers, big rigs, etc. Last point, the new speed trap is the entrance to the bridge (Northbound). The speed limit is 30mph to enter and then 65mph about 100ft further. Be sure to do 30mph until you pass the "65mph" sign.

Lake Charles, LA - The newly expanded 4-lane with turn lane between I-210 and Sale Rd. Police tend to hide on the eastern side of the road at any of a number of spots obscured by brush. Typically catching northbound traffic as they are active during rush hour and southbound traffic often gets backed up and there's no way to do the speed limit. Speed limit is still set at the old 35mph speed from when it was a residential two-lane, but isn't appropriate for a brand new 5-lane meant to be a major traffic through route for north/south traffic. This is one of the most heavily radar-monitored roads in the city as it's easy pickings.

Baton Rouge, LA - This trap on LSU avenue is between Highland and Standford. Usually one officer with a radar gun and one officer a few blocks down to stop you and write the ticket. This is a 30 mph residential street and they don't allow much overage on speed. I keep it under 30 just to make sure.

You had to be driving extremely carelessly for them to give you a second glance. Not true since a new Chief was elected. A good man, don't get me wrong. But he is very strict and has actually managed to get speed limits changed without the public knowing until they are caught going 45 in a 35 that used to be a 45. I have listed the most obvious trap, but I would be careful anywhere within a mile or so of the city limits.

Cheneyville, LA - Very deceptive manner in which they trap you. Speed limit drops from 55MPH to 35MPH in a very short distance. Not enought time to safely slow down and in my opinion, radar was shot even befor getting to the 35MPH sign. I looked at my speedometer at the 35MPH sign and I was doing exactly 35MPH. Yet the officer said I was doing 46MPH. I truly believe that I was not speeding. Fine was $133.50 which I think is high for the so called violation. Who's the worst offender, the person they say is speeding, or the deceptive manner in which they try and catch you speeding and the way they lie about it?

Woodworth, LA - This is a blacktop road where the speed limit is 25 mph. Anywhere else this road would be a 45 mph. One tactic is to run up on you very fast at night and drive about 3' off your bumper. I know of one lady this has happened to three times. The first two times it greatly scared her. She didn't know who was driving so close to her car. I know of two other people this has happened to - so five times in all I know about. If you try to speed up and get some distance from the police, then you get a ticket for driving over 25 mph.
