Abell, MD - After living along this roadway and working in the traffic safety field for almost 30 years, this MOST DEFINITELY IS a speed trap. The speed limit is lowered from 40 MPH to 25 MPH during the entire day while school is in session. It should only be lowered during school admission and dismissal times when the students are in, or immediately adjacent to the roadway and at no other times. As a matter of fact, when it was first installed, there were no warning signs advising the motorist of the speed reduction until I and many other drivers called the County to complain about it being a speed trap.

Abell, MD - I got a ticket in this speed trap. Don't go over 50 MPH on this road they often monitor it. Note there are just two speed limit signs for Hermanville Road, one on each end quite close to intersection so you don't notice them after turning on the road.

The speed limit is unrealistic @ 25, most are doing 40. Late-night enforcement (while the church parking lot is empty).
Laurel, MD - Usually 2 or 3 cruisers on the shoulder, just past the exit from Rt 216 East for I-95 South. As you come around the sound barrier wall, you don't see them until too late. Trunks up, the regular MO. The road is a divided highway, wide lanes, most people travel 65 mph. Speed limit is 45. It was 50mph before the road was pushed through straight from Leishur Rd to Rt 29. The entire stretch of Rt 216 from All Saints Road (closer in towards Main St. Laurel) to Rt 29 is a major speed trap, due to the wide road and ridiculously low speed limit. Also watch for the fat cop driving the Black 2005 Mustang GT. He cruises with moving radar in this area and on Rt 29 in this area frequently. I've also seen the cruisers set up at the top of the hill, both in the median and the shoulder right before the overpass over I-95.

Boyds, MD - On Rte 121 (Clarksburg Rd) a nice wide bridge crosses over Little Seneca Lake, Black Hill Park. Both MD Park Police AND Montgomery County Police set up radar speed traps in this area (both sides of the bridge). The speed limit from the east end of the bridge to Rte 117 (Clopper Road) is a pokey 30 mph - which seems way below what an average driver would expect for a road as straight and wide as this. The speed is probably as low as it is due to the pedestrian traffic occasionally walking along and across Rte 121 to access the lake. PM Rush hour is when I most often see a patrol car there, but I've seen radar set up there at other times as well.

If you take your foot off the gas pedal and nothing else you will be well above the 25 mph speed limit before the officer's step out from behind a car and point some device at you. They occasionally aim at people coming down the hill. Shady trees in the summer make them harder to see. Normally, I shift to a lower gear, as a preference to riding the brakes.
Columbia, MD - Rt. 100 is a very active speed trap especially east bound. Howard County Police often use the site just under the Rt. 103 overpass to set up the trap and catch motorists as they come off of a hill. It will typically involve several cruisers/officers parked to the left of the fast lane under the overpass. One officer will use the radar, another will flag motorists to stop and a third will write the ticket. If you get a ticket however go to court as all three officers will need to be present to establish a case. My case was dismissed because only one of the officers showed up to court.

Lutherville Timonium, MD - This speed trap has been present for many years. The police car usually hides at the entrance to Deer Fox Lane behind the community sign, bushes or trees (which block the police car from view). Occasionally, the police car can also be found in the private driveway across the street from Deer Fox Lane. North bound traffic on Pot Spring Road must come down a hill, and the speed trap is near the bottom of that hill. By the time drivers see the speed trap, it is too late. The speed limit is 30 miles per hour, which is unrealistically low for a wide, main road. A more realistic speed, which most cars travel at, is 45 miles per hour. The speed trap has been set-up at all times of the day, but PM rush hour is the most common.
