Delaware, OH - US 23 drops to 45 MPH south of Main Rd. This in itself isn't unfair, but persons traveling at 55 MPH are likely to get a ticket costing over $100.00. A little excessive.

Delaware, OH - This is just east of Houk Rd. If traveling west on SR 37, the speed limit is 35, but you go down a hill so you naturally pick up speed, and then it turns to 45. About 10 feet before the 45 MPH sign, you get clocked, and they slap you with a ticket well over $100.

Northwood, OH - Red-light camera setup at Wales Road and Oregon Road, just east of I-75. Was notorious for busting vehicles not making a full stop turning from EB Wales to SB Oregon, heading toward Owens C.C. (channelization now in place, allowing free-flow). Still, this is a red-light and speed camera at this intersection. Use caution.

The speed limit throughout this 4 mile stretch is 50 mph. There are several locations that are commonly used by the Martins Ferry police... northbound, between Aetna and Hanover Streets, on the right shoulder, partly hidden behind the guardrail... and southbound, at the north end of town, where Rt 7 forms a large sweeping curve, sitting at the corner of Hill Street, Marietta Street, or even Walnut Street, facing Rt. 7. Radar is used. There is no real predictability to their traps, so it is advisable to stay at 50-55 until clearing town.

Northfield, OH - Speed limit on main thoroughfare through city is 25mph. Policeman in my case did a u-turn just as I was about to enter city limits, but not yet there. I was traveling at 35mph, car in front same speed. Both of us pulled over when the lights came on because we thought officer was responding to an emergency. I was ticketed, didn't get the plate number of other car as it pulled away. Policeman ticketed me for going 47mph, and said he also clocked the car in front of me at 35 which was not possible. In Mayor's Court, I logged the number of people who were also ticketed for going 47mph, and the number was staggering. Someone walked up to me and escorted me to the Mayor's office where I was asked if I intended to dispute the ticket, so I knew I was being watched during the court session. When I said I was, I was told to leave the courtroom, obviously because I was considered a disruption to their court. I consider the $35 total I ultimately paid in Cuyahoga Court a win, because had I not contested it, I would have had to pay $125 to Northfield. $20 of the total I paid was for court costs. This occurred about 12 years ago, and I'll never forget how very wrong that was. There is nothing that could make me drive through that city again.

Their prosecutor is the nephew of Mary Rose Oakar who bounced checks when she was in congress. Walton hills has been known as a speed trap town since the 70's. My former High School teacher was a part time cop there and told us kids that in the 80's. I got off the tickets after challenging him that it was a speed trap. There is NO tolerance as to driving even one mph above the speed limit. Radar can be set up anywhere in the village and the Newton Falls police are cagey. They are also known for pulling over out of area cars just to badger the occupants. One area of particular concern is the two rural miles of Rt. 534 coming into town from the south where one would not suspect that the speed limit is an unrealistic 35 mph. If I had to name the worst speed trap in the country, Newton Falls would win! Beware!

Fostoria, OH - All of Fostoria has become a speed trap since the enactment of a "zero tolerance" policy in 2005. All the major highways entering and exiting town - 12 east and west, 18 east and west, 23/199 north and south and 613 east and west are all being patrolled by local police and sheriff's deputies from Hancock, Wood and Seneca counties, as well as State Patrol troopers. Fostoria is looking for any excuse for a pull-over, (improper turns, license plate lights, rolling stops - the works), not just speed, so drive carefully through town.

Franklin, OH - From Manchester Rd in Middletown, north to Franklin, there is about 5 miles posted at 35 mph. The speed limit was changed about 1 year or so ago from 50 or 55 mph, which it should be. Local belief is that no traffic study was done, and it was a political gift to a commissioner or someone important who lives on the road. A year ago it was being HIGHLY enforced. I got a ticket when I was just entering the area that used to be 35 because I hadn't noticed the new posting earlier. I think it is still enforced because most traffic stays at 35 mph even through some of the parts where there are no houses. The same road in Middletown, south from Manchester Rd, with similar house spacing has a 50 mph speed limit.

Troy, OH - Right after you leave Troy going towards Piqua on Troy-Piqua Rd., the 35 speed limit continues for a mile or so. What is insane about this is that up to a few months ago, it used to be 55 mph. But for whatever reason the City of Troy decided to move it's corparation limit around a mile north. Instead of waiting for this new Housing development to be completed and change the limit then, they decided to post new 35 mph signs even before it started work, or even approved by the voters. When I go to work, I go a different way now. Lots of people does not even care about the 35 mph limit. They go around 50-55 no matter what part of the road. One last thing: After the speed limit is raised to 55 mph, there is another 35 mph zone, like a half a mile away...Duh! They should make that entire strech of road 35mph, all the way from Troy-Urbana road to the 5 way stop if the really want to make sense.

Xenia, OH - I was in a 65 MPH section, driving 78 MPH (by cruise control in a Lexus). The officer had 85 on her radar. I was using a Valentine detector that never detected any radar. She was extremely defensive, although I remained polite the entire time. I suspect the 85 was "preset".

You don`t get your ticket for 3 wks. after the fact. It is a civil violation, so they don`t have the burden of proof they would normally have. They cite the owner of the vehicle, without having to prove who was actually driving.

The speed limit changes as the road Route 4 goes into Springfield and changes to North Street; the limit goes from 65 to 50 to 45 to 35 and that is where the cop will tag you, between Thompson and Bechtle, right after the road curves. I have taken notice that one specific officer had 56 written citations in a 49 day period. I have also researched and found many other officers within this timeframe have written roughly the same (possibly more) in this same location.
