Hope Valley, RI - Police park on Rte. 3 & 138 in the Hope Valley Fire Department parking lot - across from West Bakery at the blinking yellow light. The spot is particularly attractive because traffic heading east on Rte. 3 are coming down a very steep hill into the village. Speed limit is posted, but brakes need to be applied to keep the car at 25 or below. If you are not aware, it is very easy to speed here.

Newport, RI - This is a 4 lane road with a 25 mph speed limit. The places the cops hide is nearly an art at this stretch of road. They hide in the beach parking lots at night near the bottom, and where Memorial Boulevard starts to climb noticeably, the cops hide in the turning area in the middle of the road (This is a divided road with turning areas throughout), and they look down the hill. Also, I've seen them hiding behind a fenced in area (I believe enclosing some water utilities) right before the hill begins.

Middletown, RI - There is about a 3/4 mile stretch of road in Middletown adjacent to the Portsmouth border. I see a cop in this area setting a speed trap about twice a week. They sit in at the point where one street meets 138, about 500ft past the Portsmouth border catching people moving southbound. They also sit on the opposite side in a field catching people going northbound same distance from the border. They also sit further down the road a bit right near the former Mobil gas station catching people going northbound.

I'm not sure as to when they do it, but eventually during the year (about 3 times) they'll have an officer Stand there with a radar gun, and an ATV with an officer pulls out in front of you down the road. It's some kind of operation, I don't know what it's called. But it's a Pain. This is besides your normal cruiser sitting there, which they frequently do. Either side-by-side or solo. They like to catch people going over the posted speed limit of 25. While this is a reasonable speed limit for a residential area, you have to ride your brakes the whole way down the very steep hill and you have to constantly monitor your speed limit. They will stop you for going 4 miles over the posted speed.

Providence, RI - Providence motorcycle police officers conduct a trap on Huntington Avenue each direction. They usually work in pairs on Eastern direction of this road, which is an old industrial highway complete with guardrails and no residences. CAUTION: Another pair of motorcycle officers have recently been seen on the Western direction of Huntington Ave. They are close to the Huntington Ave/ Cranston Street intersection, and they work the same days as the officers at the other end. So don't think your free and clear when you see officers monitoring the other side! ADDITIONAL INFO: This has been a speedtrap for quite some time in the city. The speed limit is 25 mph, yet most cars travel over 50 mph because it is a straight road, no houses or businesses and runs along railroad tracks. It even has guardrails and a divider between both directions of traffic. It is really a four lane highway, but the city does not stripe it.

However, they have been seen there midday on occasion. They sit underneath where Interstate 95 crosses over Kinlsey Avenue, just before the rear parking entrance to the Providence Place Mall ADDITIONAL INFO: This street is one way, two lanes, and runs along the Woonasquatucket River, with minimal intersecting streets in an industrial/office area. There is a newly constructed condominium building, but none of the residence walk around the area and their parking entrance is on another street. Natural flow of traffic on this street is around 40mph since it is wide and two lanes.

East Providence, RI - Heading towards I-195W on East Shore Expressway, after the cemetary (on right) there are no longer any traffic lights, onramps or exits, its essentially a two lane "highway". Posted limit is only 50 and police will park in breakdown lane with RADAR and step into traffic to write tickets. The roadway has sweeping curves and when you see them its too late. They also pulse the RADAR guns versus constant on, making RADAR detector somewhat less than effective. There are times when two officers are working this trap (which is just before the I-195 underpass/"onramp", shaded by tall trees (making seeing them harder). Tickets issued are municipal to the city of East Providence. This is a very common location to see the East Providence police, be very careful!
