Brownsboro, TX - •There is a hill coming into the city from the west, the cops hide over in a grassy area out of plain sight until it is too late for motorists to see them. They also turn the lasar and radar off and on so that you can't know they are there. And, of course, the speed limit is reduced by 10 mph just after crossing over the hill. But truly the cops are constanly giving tickets all day to motorists just driving even a minimum over the speed limits. I watched one day as a cop pulled out of the station by Hwy. 314 and turned his lights on a car that was traveling down Hwy. 31. The cop is still at the station but he pulls out and chases the little white car and pulls it over. From where he was he could not have possibly known the car was speeding or anything else for that matter.

This reduces the speed limit from 60mph to 40mph at a point where simply lifting your foot off the gas, without applying the brake, almost ensures a speed 15 to 20mph over the limit as you crest the overpass into the radar.

Frost, TX - Caution!I cannot say that this is a speed trap for sure, but I am saying that they will get you if you so not slow down! The officer will park anywhere up and down this small streach of HWY. He will also park just out of sight on the side streets so you cannot see him from the opposite direction. Just saying look out!

My fine was more than $200, which grew to $681 because I could not make my court date because I live out of state. I have never encountered a higher fine for a small violation or a higher fine for failure to appear. The city then informed my home state DMV, which threatened to suspend my license. The city of Riesel, Texas, has you over a barrel when you're from out of state and they exploit this to the fullest. It is really outrageous.

Shenandoah, TX - A 1.7 square mile "city" of 500 homes that has milked the Interstate and feeder road for many years. Shenandoah is "falling apart" because they need $26.5 million in infrastructure repairs. That works out to $53,000 per house! Hence the 7 Dodge Charger Hemis and the recent condemnation of land to enlarge the parking lot of the speed trap headquarters. Shenandoah now has a higher ratio of cops to citizens than the notorious Kendleton speed trap which was shut down by the state. Shenandoah performed 1000 traffic stops in March 2007 which equals 2000-3000 tickets in one month. Shenandoah has threatened residents (population 1503 including children) with contempt of court for not showing up and creating a slow down in the system. The judge is also a bondsman. Shenandoah dropped the self proclaimed title "Safest Little Town in Texas" and now use "Shenandoah is in the Catbird Seat and it Sure Feels Good." A boycott of Shenandoah is in effect and has had some success. An Oct 2006 poll in Woodlands Online showed that 71.43% of respondents shopped at Woodlands Mall while only 9.52% shopped at Portofino. Many businesses in Shenandoah advertise that their address is Conroe or The Woodlands rather than Shenandoah.

Fulshear, TX - This city disbanded their police department some years back for various infractions which included running a speed trap on their main roadways. Now word has it that the city is bringing back their police department. They will start out with 2 or 3 officer's and then gradually increase their size in the coming months. One way to justify their increase in manpower is to write more tickets. So, if you plane to drive or peddle through this small town, may I suggest you drive the posted speed limit. Since there is a small tax base, expect the ticket writing campaign to begin in earnest.

Kemah, TX - Kemah is a very small city. The officer to resident ratio is known to be excessively small (don't recall exact numbers). You go right through Kemah en route to Galveston Beach. There is a high bridge over the Galveston Bay that separates Seabrook (on your list)and Kemah. Officers will sit just over crescent of the bridge and nab drivers nearly before the cars have crossed into Kemah. Late at night, i.e. 11:00 p.m. and after, with very little traffic, officers will follow close behind drivers until reaching their destiny or crossing city limits-considered to be intimidation factor, which they are known for. I live approx 2 miles from Kemah in League City. At any given time on a Friday or Saturday night, you will see at least 1 set of blue lights on Hwy 146, and often 2 or 3, within less than a mile of each other. I would very much be interested to see the % of revenues from traffic violations.

San Marcos, TX - The problem is that the speed limit is 40 on a road that goes primarily through wooded areas without residences. The road is good, and natural speed without thinking is 50. When a cop needs to meet his ticket quota, he comes out to McCarty and preys on moms taking their kids to school in the morning or comes out in the afternoon to catch whom he can. McCarty Lane is a money maker, and the unrealistic speed limit out in this country setting assures it.

Hondo, TX - Passed a trooper oncoming that was running Ka-band radar just east of Hondo on Hwy 90. Was stopped supposedly for no seatbelt, but was actually wearing one. He saw it on me when he arrived at my window. He insisted I just put it on, but I actually Really Was wearing it the whole trip. He asked for my license, glanced at it. Then, he warned--radar detectors (as he pointed to my dash) don't work. If I can catch you or anyone going 1 mph over with a radar detector, you get a ticket. Take that how you want to. My detector was highly visible because of the dangling cord. As usual, Valentine picked him up far away. He was probably mad that I had one!

Giddings, TX - (Giddings TX.)coming into Gidding either from Austin or Houston the speed limit drops very quick for a four lane HWY. By this time it's to late, the Police sit near the lower speed limit sign and get you. They also do vehichle profiling. If you have low profile tires, they asume you are a drug dealer or something and will stop you using the excuse you were speeding. My wife, daughter, and poodle were all searched and released without a ticket. Giddings is becoming one of the worst towns to pass through. I take interstate 10 now to Austin due to the corrupt Police Dept. in Giddings TX. Berton TX on HWY 290 just outside of Brenem is all so a speed trap. Be careful going to Austin taking HWY 290 period.

Claude, TX - Initially I was charged with going 82 in a 70mph zone. When the officer realized there is no way my bus can go that fast (and when I invited him for a test drive and told him I was having engine trouble), he changed it to passing an emergency vehicle (him-he was stopping someone when I passed him at about 45, and then he came by to give me a ticket while I was stopped trying to fix my engine). One lawyer I talked to claimed people get stopped there all the time.
