The police car is usually waiting at the midway dip on the north side, on vacant property, usually fifty or sixty feet back from the highway. You know this is a speed trap because the arresting officer never issues a speeding ticket, only the opportunity to attend one class of traffic school at a cost of $50. This way the Provo Police Department gets the entire amount instead of having to split with the court, and the lucky motorist does not get a blemish on his or her driving record. Provo City receives no complaints from its voters and taxpayers because the bulk of those arrested are residents of neighboring Springville and Mapleton, heading to Provo's East Bay shopping area.
